NATO and Japan Strengthen Defense Cooperation for Global Security
Brussels - NATO is set to enhance its partnership with Japan through increased information-sharing and defense-industrial collaboration, according to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. As the military alliance, comprising 32 member states, recognizes the necessity for more practical cooperation with Tokyo and other partners in the Indo-Pacific region, this initiative is seen as vital for addressing global security issues.
In a recent interview, Rutte emphasized the need for tangible results, stating that the alliance aims to deepen its relationships not only with Japan but also with Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea, collectively referred to as the Indo-Pacific Four (IP4). This cooperative effort seeks to bolster collaboration in areas such as industrial production, technological innovation, and data sharing concerning mutual security interests.
Rutte expressed that the alliance must move beyond mere declarations of intent.
