Shanghai - A district court in China is poised to announce a verdict next week concerning a stabbing incident that occurred in June of the previous year. The attack involved a Japanese woman, her child, and a Chinese female bus guide, as reported by sources from Japan's Consulate-General in Shanghai.

The incident took place on June 24, when a man in his 50s allegedly attacked the victims with a knife while they were waiting at a bus stop in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Tragically, the Chinese bus guide lost her life during this assault, while the Japanese woman and her child sustained injuries.

Chinese authorities formally indicted the suspect in November. The initial hearing of the trial took place on January 9, during which Japanese Consul-General in Shanghai, Masaru Okada, was permitted to attend. Observers are particularly interested in how the court will address the motive behind the attack during the sentencing phase as well as the potential severity of the sentence.

Chinese officials have characterized the incident as an accident, providing little information regarding the assailant's motives or whether he specifically targeted the Japanese victims. Meanwhile, Japanese officials have refrained from disclosing detailed accounts of the trial proceedings but plan to release information following the sentencing.

This case follows another tragic incident that occurred in September, when a Japanese boy was fatally stabbed in Shenzhen, located in Guangdong Province. The initial court hearing for that case is scheduled for this coming Friday. The Chinese government appears eager to resolve these cases swiftly, reflecting its desire to enhance diplomatic relations with Japan.
