Tokyo Assembly Accountant Faces Charges for Fund Misreporting

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office has formally charged an accountant affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly for allegedly failing to report over ¥60 million (approximately $386,000) in income and expenses.

Hidekatsu Yajima, age 72, is accused of significantly underreporting revenue generated from fundraising events, including ¥35 million from ticket sales for parties held in 2019 and 2022. Additionally, he is alleged to have misrepresented ¥28 million in expenditures related to donations and subsidies.

This indictment is part of a broader investigation into financial irregularities within the LDP, which came to light in December 2023.
