Shohei Ohtani Resumes Practice Swings Following Shoulder Surgery

Sat 4th Jan, 2025

Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way sensation, Shohei Ohtani, has commenced practice swings after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder in early November. This update was confirmed by Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes on Friday.

Ohtani, who earned unanimous recognition as the 2024 National League MVP, faced a significant injury during the World Series, where he dislocated his shoulder in the second game against the New York Yankees in late October.

Prior to this surgery, Ohtani had already been sidelined due to a second surgery on his right elbow in September 2023, which prevented him from pitching throughout the previous season. As he prepares for the upcoming 2025 season, Ohtani is focused on reclaiming his dual-role capabilities when the Dodgers face the Chicago Cubs in March during the Tokyo opener.

While he has yet to make contact with the ball, Gomes noted that Ohtani is making promising strides in his recovery as he gears up for spring training.

In related news, Ohtani is also in the spotlight for his potential to lead the Dodgers to consecutive World Series appearances. Additionally, he and his wife, Mamiko, are anticipating the arrival of their first child. Furthermore, Ohtani has recently achieved his third Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year honor, tying with the legendary Michael Jordan for this accolade.
